A team of high ranking scientists from the Chinese Academy of Science led by Professor Y.Wei, Deputy Director visited National Institute of Fundamental Studies Sri Lanka to seek collaborative research avenues in basic sciences. Prof.Wei noted that Sri Lanka will receive a joint National center for Advanced water quality research as an outright grant to the Ministry of Water Supply and Urban Planning (Sri Lanka). The research facility will first be used to nail down environmentally related root causes of chronic kidney diseases of unknown etiology in Sri Lanka. The Facility, one of the finest in South Asia will be located at the University of Peradeniya. Dr.Weragoda, Project Director, China- Sri Lanka Grant Project stated that the National Center will be completed by Year 2021. The research action plan on CKDu Mitigation has already Been Presented to the H.E. Sri Lanka and the H.E. High commissioner of peoples Republic China in 2016. To Combat CKDu, The NSF (Sri Lanka) and NSFC (China) already launched a joint grant program in 2017.
