Prof. Saman Seneweera assumed duties as the Director of NIFS on 4th June 2018. He is a Professor in Plant Science at the University of Southern Queensland and also works as an adjunct Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia and Ruhuna University, Sri Lanka. He was a Junior Research Associate at Institute of Fundamental Studies from 1990 to 1992. His willingness to dedicate to uplift the place where he was trained to be a good researcher has motivated him to come back to Sri Lanka, giving up all sophisticated environment in Australia. He has over 25 years of teaching, research and human resource management experience in Australia, USA, Japan and Sri Lanka.
Prof. Saman’s research focus is on the impact of climate change on crops and pastures and developing adaptation strategies to mitigate climate change. He has published over 200 research articles (70 in SCI Journals), including publications in Nature and Science. Over 80% of his papers are published in top quartile (A/A*) journals
