National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), being among the best research institutes in Sri Lanka took pride in hosting the NIFS-Young Scientist’s Symposium on Multidisciplinary Research 2019 (NIFS-YSSMR 2019). This event was organized by Young Scientist’s Association of NIFS (NIFS- YSA) for the first time in history.
NIFS-YSSMR 2019 ran under four major themes; Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth & Environmental Sciences and Physical Sciences. The symposium aimed in disseminating scientific findings and building young scientists with advanced leadership and organizational skills.
The best presenters were awarded prizes from each category. Ms. Pavithra Madamarandawala from Biological sciences, Mr. Achintha Viduranga from Chemical sciences, Mr. Mahesh Chamika from Earth & Environmental sciences and Mr. Pubudu Nuwan won the best oral presenter titles while in poster presenter sessions, Ms. Kalpani Kumari and Ms. Himashi Narampanawa won the joint first places while Ms. Tharindya Mudalige won the third place.
Around 55 abstracts were presented by the participants. This being the initial step, NIFS- YSA intend to continue this as an annual event open to other institutes of Sri Lanka, widening the scope and exposure of the scientific work.
