Research on Airborne Microorganisms

The project on airborne microorganisms aims to identify and quantify the microbial pollutants as a preliminary step to facilitate further studies. Current studies are focused on identification and quantification of the microbial pollutants of the respirable and deposited atmospheric particles in outdoor and indoor environments of the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka using culture based methods, fluorescence microscopy and quantitative real time PCR. The findings of this research will lead to effective mitigation strategies of respiratory diseases.
