Dr. Inoka Piyasinghe

Coordinator/ SDU - Science Education and Dissemination Unit

Dr. Inoka currently serves as the Coordinator and Head of the Science Education and Dissemination Unit (SEDU) at NIFS. She holds a B.Sc. (Special) degree in Botany (2006) and earned her Ph.D. in Ecology in 2017 from the University of Peradeniya. Throughout her career, Dr. Inoka has held various roles, beginning in the Department of Botany at the University of Peradeniya, followed by her work as a Research Assistant at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya. She also served as a instructor at the Technical College in Matale and later transitioned to a Chemistry teacher in government national schools, where she worked from 2011 to 2024.

Her research interests focus on exploring the relationship between the phenotypic and physiological features of invasive plants, alongside soil physicochemical parameters. She is also passionate about investigating the distribution of invasive plants in degraded habitats and contributing to restoration efforts.

As the Coordinator and Head of SEDU, Dr. Inoka is currently engaged in the dissemination of scientific knowledge to enhance public awareness of the research conducted at NIFS. In addition, she conducts research in the field of science education and dissemination. Furthermore, Dr. Inoka supervises students in science education and communication, guiding them in both their academic and professional development.
