School Science Programme (SSP)
NIFS offers specially designed programs for introducing young minds to new ideas and discoveries.
Every year the SEDU at NIFS organizes a four day programme.
Over 150 students who have completed G.C.E. O/L from all over the island participate in this action packed program filled with lectures, activities and lab demonstrations (conducted in English). Top scientists from the NIFS and other invited institutes enrich the the future generation's scientific dreams and aspirations. The main intent of this programme is to create an interest and passion for the scientific field in young minds.
Participants are required to have 9 distinctions in the first attempt of the O/L exam and have plans to study in science stream for their A/L Certificate.
The School Science Programme (SSP) was inaugurated on 28th of February, 1987 by Prof Cyril Ponnamperuma. Generations of students from around Sri Lanka have received priceless, unforgettable experiences through this event and have chosen to pursue scientific careers.
