“Experzio ‘22”, All island Research Symposium held by the Research Unit of Kingswood College, Kandy

An all-island research symposium to highlight the importance of research for school students was organized by the Kingswood College Research Unit and held at the College Auditorium on 29th March 2023.

An island wide essay competition was organized in 2022 by the Kingswood College Research Unit for the first time, focusing on the importance of exposure to research at an earlier age. An expert panel of scientists from the National Institute of Fundamental Studies evaluated these essays. The main objective of this essay competition was to promote the interest in research among the school community and build a culture of school-level research across the island.

At the symposium, Professor Lakshman Dissanayake Challenge Trophy was awarded to the school research team of Girls High School, Kandy, while Mahamaya College Kandy won second place.

Prof. Saluka Kodithuwakku, Director of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies, Kandy, Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, Research Professor, and Mrs. Chandrika Tilakarathna, the Senior Assistant Librarian of NIFS attended this event as special invitees. Dr. Harsha Subasinghe and Prof. S.B. Weerakoon from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya also made presentations at this symposium.
