Sidath Ekanayake
Research Assistant - Microbial Biotechnology
Sidath graduated with honours, earning his BSc in Export Agriculture from the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. Fueling his passion for research, he seamlessly transitioned to NIFS, where he began his career as an undergraduate researcher. His academic pursuits continued as he achieved a milestone by completing his MSc in Natural Resources Management at the esteemed Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Peradeniya, in 2023. Undeterred by the challenges, Sidath is currently immersed in the pursuit of his MPhil degree at NIFS, contributing to the institute's cutting-edge research initiatives. His hands-on experience extends beyond academia. He actively contributed to the Ministry's biofertilizer project as a volunteer researcher and research assistant. His dedication to research is evident in his focus on Environmental valuation and impact assessment. His research interests span a broad spectrum, encompassing critical areas such as Soil carbon sequestration, Mitigation of climate change, Environmental Conservation and Management, Natural Resources, and Environmental Economics. Through his work, Sidath strives to address pressing environmental challenges and contribute to developing sustainable solutions. Sidath has served as the former Young Scientists' Association (YSA) co-chair, showcasing his leadership and collaborative spirit. Currently, he remains an active member of the YSA, continuing to foster connections and contribute to the dynamic world of scientific exploration.
