Gold Medal for Research Excellence
Bentara Vitanage Niluka Sewwandi is a postgraduate research student recognized for her significant contributions to the Water Quality Research Project at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS). She completed her MPhil at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) in 2023, with a thesis focused on the controlled growth of size-tunable carbon nanomaterials using Chemical Vapor Deposition for molecular sieving applications. During her MPhil studies, she collaborated on the Water Quality Research Project at NIFS, applying her expertise in nanomaterials to address crucial water quality issues.
At the 50th Convocation of USJ on October 30, 2024, she was awarded the Gold Medal for her research excellence, honoring her highest international and national research publications, patents, and research awards within the stipulated time at the board of study in Physical sciences of the faculty of Graduate studies. Currently, Niluka is a Research Assistant on the Water Research Project at NIFS and is working toward her Ph.D.
